RUF systems help MULTIVAC to streamline its chip handling processes and to recover coolants

A leading provider of packaging and processing solutions, MULTIVAC enjoys enhanced production efficiency and sustainability thanks to RUF briquetting systems. Eleven of these systems in total compress into compact briquettes about 300 tonnes of aluminium chips accumulating from this company’s milling centres. In the process, virtually all of the entrapped coolant is extracted and reintroduced to the production cycle. This simplifies the chip handling logistics, cuts coolant costs, and increases earnings from aluminium chip sales.

Comparing Briquetting and Centrifugation

What metal processing facility wants wet chips that bring along dirty work areas and container storage spaces, leading to high disposal efforts with lots of forklift traffic? Wet chips also result in a discharge of a significant amount of coolant (cutting fluid or emulsion) and low scrap returns. The solution: Separating metal chips from the coolant. But the question remains: how?

The year 1993 witnessed at RUF Maschinenbau the culmination of the exchange mould’s evolution from wood debris to metal chips. Just two years later, as many as ten metal briquetting systems had been sold in addition to the original wood processors. Today, RUF briquetting technology has become an integral constituent in the recycling of chips generated by the metalworking industries. A success story in the SME segment.

Parquet flooring manufacturer Bauwerk briquettes sawings and sanding debris on three RUF installations

The Bauwerk Group’s production plant in Đurđevac, Croatia, runs three RUF presses that transform accumulated sawings and sanding debris into compact wood briquettes. This helps to minimise the huge efforts otherwise involved in handling these bulk materials. In addition, in their briquetted forms, the sawings and sanding debris gain a considerable boost in value as a carbon neutral fuel, which in turn promotes healthy sales revenues.
